SRU dance majors have the opportunity to learn about Colombian dance and culture through Professor Melissa Teodoro’s research and expertise in this particular dance genre. Students learn about the history behind Afro-Colombian dances, as well as kinetically engage in the movement and choreographic aspects of the dances. The Afro-Colombian Dance Ensemble (ACDE), comprised of a group of selected dance majors, has performed  in festivals, conferences and educational venues in the Western PA area. Members of ACDE have the opportunity to travel with Professor Teodoro to different locations in the Caribbean coast of Colombia where they conduct ethnographic research of Afro-Colombian dance and culture.
